SetMeUp  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 006-100022
by: Werewolf Finds Dragon [More]
Please read this.

I'm taking another break for a while. My anxiety isn't holding up well and I need to take some time for myself to recover. Frankly, modding can be a thankless job and some of the people one is forced to interact with can be... deeply unpleasant at best, to put it in the kindest way I can and not as I truly want to. For now, I feel like my mods don't need any further work done to them. They're fine as they are. See you later, folks.

I'll be back! I'm not gone for good, I just need to set this aside for now. That's all.

One thing I will say as a final note is that it'd be nice if one could turn off the comments system and only have a bug tracker in the vein of Nexus Mods. That'd be handy for people like myself who do deal with anxiety. And I deal with a lot of anxiety.

See you around, folks. My thanks to those who were kind.

Description
Tired of setting up in-game settings every time you create a new character? Fed up of all those checkboxes? How would you just like to type one, short line of text into the chat window and be done with it, instead? Just like that.

Along with settings. SetMeUp also supports: Chat tab states and information (for all chat windows), chat window position and dimensions (for all windows), optional key binding support through Binder.

So, aside from addon settings (here's the mod for those), SetMeUp is your one-button setup for new characters.

Note: If I update SetMeUp to include new features, you'll have to remake your profile to take advantage of whatever new things the mod covers.

Note: I'm aware that Deome has a similar mod, but his is outdated and is missing a large swathe of settings added by newer patches. My mod uses the same idea but is written from scratch to be dynamic rather than using static setting lists.
Features
Not much to say that isn't covered above. Save your settings profile on one character, then log onto another to load it there. Create profiles for all sorts of scenarios, however you like it! Let SetMeUp handle the hassle.

Slash Commands

SetMeUp is controlled with the following slash commands...
  • /smu save profile name - Stores your in-game settings profile as 'profile name;'
  • /smu load profile name - Loads in-game settings from 'profile name;'
  • /smu delete profile name - Deletes the profile named 'profile name;'
  • /smu list - Lists all of your stored profiles;
  • /smu help - Tells you of the commands and what they do.
Disclaimer
I'm sharing this though because I genuinely get satisfaction out of the mere possibility of helping others, even when I don't know for sure. I have no interest in being popular, cults of popularity squick me out. As such, considering my disabilities, I'm unlikely to look at the comments very much. So this addon is delivered as-is, with a hearty dose of caveat emptor. Anything that it doesn't already do is 'out of scope.' You have other choices. I just wanted to make an simple, elegant solution for a real problem I was having. And now I'm sharing it in case it helps others.

:: 006-100022

o Fixed the typo causing the error.

:: 005-100022

o Code cleanup and bugfixes.

:: 004-100017

o Hadn't mentioned that SetMeUp does its tab thing for all tabs in all windows, not just the primary windows. Pretty handy for you multi-window users out there.

o SetMeUp now supports chat window dimensions and position, for all windows.

o Threw a safety check in there to make sure that nothing can be done with SetMeUp when the player is in combat, dead, or reviving. I doubt anyone would actually try this on purpose, but just in case someone gets jumped or something...

:: 003-100017

o Chat tab information is now saved.

o SetMeUp now supports Binder.

:: 002-100017

o I've now dealt with all social option vulgarities. And I call them that because they were the only aspects to lack a settingId! They just had to be special snowflakes. Grump, grump, grump.

o What that means is that SetMeUp now handles chat bubble options, chat colours, chat font size, and chat alpha. Finally. The means of handling chat bubbles/colours was actually okay, that didn't make things too horrible. Though what I had to do to handle font size/chat alpha makes me pull a face. >:C

o After loading a profile, a reload of the UI will occur just to ensure everything is properly saved and then initialised. It's probably not necessary, but I like taking that step just to make sure.

:: 001-100017

o Initial release.

SetMeUp now saves dimensions and position information for all chat windows (not just the primary one, either). Hooray! I think that's everything chat related now, yeah?

All chat tab information for all windows is covered. Such as name, interactive, locked, filters/channels, and so on. All chat windows have their position and dimensions stored. And chat colours are now saved too. That's everything, right?

All chat tab info (such as amount of tabs, tab names, tab purpose, tab categories), and cat tab colours at the moment. Chat window position isn't in there, but I could look at that.

Really? Huh. Sometimes I forget which addons I've fixed locally that aren't mine. I do that a lot. Hm, pChat is a big, big addon just for saving tabs, though. I'll consider adding that functionality into SetMeUp.
Thanks a bunch for this update. I went back and fixed my UnifiedChatTabs to be functional, but it'll be great to have it included in this addon. Is it now saving chat tabs, chat colors, and chatbox position, or just some of those?

The work you're putting into your addons is making you quickly rise on my list of favorite authors, alongside Votan.

- I know, right? I wish they would, too. For this, chat tabs, and key bindings. It's just astounding, really. It's human nature to want their own baseline to work from, not Zenimax's. While some settings will change between characters, there's nowhere near as much as would change versus, say, Zenimax's defaults. I wish they understood that. Though some of the things they do confound me and leave me scratching my head.

(One of the things that left me scratching my head is why they couldn't include settingId links for the few options they didn't have them for. Grump, grump, grump. Special snowflake options.)
OMG i love you, i will go gay for you

Finally! I've been looking for an addon to do exactly this! Along with Votan's Keybinder this is essential for me when I create a new character. It's beyond me that ZOS hasn't included this in the game already.

I don't actually think it's possible without specifically adding each one individually. That's something I'd rather not do. It seems the social panel uses some special snowflake 'custom' fields that no other options panel does. Bloody typical. I'll look into it, though, and see what I can figure out.

I try not to step on the toes of other mod authors, so I don't do things that others have done unless I have a clearly better implementation or the mod is outdated.

Votan makes good stuff, I use his Keybinder addon. As for saving chat tabs, I use UnifiedChatTabs. I'll change this to make it more clear in the description, SMU basically does everything under 'Settings' in the menu. If it's under 'Settings,' it's handled by this mod.

Thanks for the kind words. C:
