Sous Chef - Provisioning Helper (Recipe helper/search)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: v2.31
by: Wobin, Baertram, CrazyDutchGuy, katkat42, Rhalyf
Dependencies needed:
This addon needs the dependency "LibSort" installed to your live/AddOns folder!

Description
Inspired somewhat, by ingeniousclown's Research Assistant, Sous Chef will make your provisioning life somewhat easier, by keeping track of things so you don't have to.

Sous Chef will work through your cookbook, and then whenever you look at your inventory, loot or bank, will mark Provisioning Ingredients with the Provisioning item type. If you mouse over the ingredient, Sous Chef will let you know which recipes use that ingredient, along with how many of that recipe you can make with your current inventory. (Note, currently we're unable to match ingredients in the Guild Store). You can switch her behaviour to only show the details on left click, if you're short on Tooltip space.

She will sort/group your known ingredients if you wish her to.

She will also take note when you browse recipes, of any that you don't know, in your inventory, bank, guild bank and guild store, and mark them for your later elucidation. Let it not be said that your Sous Chef doesn't look out for you!

If you set Alternate Character Check on and have the Mark if recipes are unknown, then the tickmarks marking unknown recipes will be faded if an alternate character knows that recipe. Clicking once on the recipe will detail who knows that one.

Alternate Character (Recipe/Ingredient) Knowledge will spread the information of your culinary knowledge to all your bank alts.

In the Provisioning table, Blue and Purple recipes will be shown in the appropriate colour!

Sous Chef will also track a Shopping List if you so wish. To do so, simply mark any recipe you wish to keep track of, in the Provisioning window, and Sous Chef will highlight the ingredients for those recipes in a different colour. You can also ask her to only worry about the Shopping List and ignore all other ingredients.

Now the only problem that remains is hoarding ingredients on the off chance that you'll find the recipe for it in the future =)

Thanks to Ayantir for the French translations, and sirinsidiator for the German translations!

If you are having problems seeing this in action, please run /scstats and file a bug report here

Bug reports
Please log a bug at the portal with some screenshots of your inventory where the bug is apparent, (You can use Imgur to host your images), screenshots of the error message if there's one, and place your SV file in PasteBin and link to it in the report.

French and German clients

Hopefully, the recipe/result name mismatch problem will be solved with version 2.9. If you continue to have problems, even after disabling the experimental recipe matcher, please let me know in the comments.

With regards to non English clients, there are a number of Recipe/Result combinations that do not match exactly.

EG: Geißelwürzeconfit comes from a Rezept:Geißelwürzenconfit, which I assume (verb and noun appropriately) is either due to a typo, or different people translating the original.

French recipes have examples like "Recette de bière à la viande sombre" to make "Bière de viande sombre". I have an experimental filter to remove 'de' and 'à la' to try and improve matching, but that doesn't work in German, where it's all a single word (Difficult to differentiate endings and the like from midword letters).

I've tried to handle this, but cannot reliably do so, so I must sadly decline any future bug report of this nature. If you could report to Zenimax, the typo (I'm unsure what sort of priority they have for text adjustments), that will resolve itself in the future, but that is all I can offer as a solution to this issue.

If you wish to ignore a recipe so it doesn't keep clogging up your system, you can use the following commands:
/sciadd <recipe name> - Will add a recipe to the list. Can use the link if you can render it (ie not from the Guild Shop)
/sciremove <recipe name> - Will remove a recipe from the list (also can use a link)
/scilist - Will list what recipes you have ignored

If a recipe name is in that list, it will not be considered for marking. Also note, that atm, links with accented/umlaut'd characters will not parse well, you will have to type out the name. I'll work on fixing that.

Hmm, I like that! I'll add it to the to-do list.
to be more clear - not ingredients level, but exactly level or the product we made with it

It appears as though the marking of recipes at a cooking station no longer functions in 1.5.

Edit: Maybe it's just finicky.

Okay, I shall add this to my to-do list.

I discovered a sylph gin problem (anyone else too ?):

in the book the recipe is called "sylphy gin"
but the recipe is called "sylph gin"
Therefore the recipe will not be marked even if known !!
Wow, I didn't know that problem existed in the English client. It's not uncommon in the French and German translations, sadly. That's a /bug that should be reported to Zenimax. I'd even say it "Impairs Functionality", because it messes up Sous Chef!

So I paid 9000gp for a lv15 green recipe I already knew - pheew
!!! Dude, I wouldn't pay that much for a blue recipe! And I thought I was a compulsive completist...

What CrazyDutchGuy said. You can also assign a keybinding to the command, in the Esc menu -> Controls, and scroll down to Sous Chef.

Also, ingredients are only marked if you know a recipe that uses them.

I have never seen a shopping list either. Where would that be and how do we access it?
The shopping list is simply composed of all ingredients used in any marked recipes.

I have my provisioning up to level 50 and I have a lot of low level ingredients stashed and my cook alt toon's inventory is always full. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to sell / give away all the lower level ingredients or are some of them used making higher level recipes?
The flavors/spices are. The first two ingredients in any recipe are not. There's a jpg floating around somewhere, that summarizes what ingredients are used for what...

All solutions / ideas / jokes appreciated
Why did the bantam guar cross the road? To get to the other side!

(Hey, you didn't specify good jokes! )

Marking a recipe is done at a cooking fire. Select the recipe to mark. Then look down the right corner and click the button Mark Recipe.

Marked Recipe Items show up as Blue in your inventory (or another color if u changed it in the settings)

Which items are not being marked for you ?

Many thanks, great addon.
Localization is already on my to-do list, actually. I speak a little bit of German, and I don't know what languages CrazyDutchGuy speaks, but I might ask for help with the French if need be.

Thank you!

Hiya - quick request: I have one character for whom I'm trying to get the Recipe Book achievement. For him, I'd like to be able to shop for recipes on any of my alts. You know, open up a guild trader's kiosk and browse and see the checkmarks BUT see them relevant to my main provisioner.

I see where your coming from, I'm mentioning this as someone who basically hordes mats, just thinking being able to know what you can get from a vendor vs farm to shrink what you keep in stock. I know there are a ton of mats for provisioning and maybe its just me but being able to know what I can get easily vs farm help's w/ storage and storage is why I mentioned it. If I can buy stuff cheap enough id rather farm the non purchasable stuff and buy the rest from vendor if ya follow.

It probably is, since only the second ingredient in any recipe is available for purchase (the one that tells you the type of food or drink you're making), but I'm not sure how much demand there is for this feature. Anybody?
