Tamriel Standard Time

Thank you all for more than 250.000 Downloads.

I would like to thank all the people who gave me donations. It means a lot to me.
I guess you want to stay anonymous but if you like to be named, please write me a PM.

Latest Update
I completely rewrote the Clock - Tamriel Standard Time
It has now a much better performance, a pretty code background and many more features.
Check it out!
This legacy version should still work for a long time, but will not receive any updates anymore.

Overview

This addon Clock - TST adds a completely customizable and moveable label to the game which shows you the current date and time of Tamriel and of Earth (linked to your system time, thus it is accurate where ever you are).
Additionally, it also shows the current state of the moon and the remaining time to the next phase.

Updates

The last update 1.0.0 brings you a fixed Fake Lore Date and an improved fragment handeling (no more warnings when opening the menu). The FLD will show you the current week day, day and month month in the real world with a lore name.

Update 0.7.8 added independently sizeable moon and phase labels with a customizable look of moon label independent of the clock label. It has a improved moon alignment inspired by Kenza. it also is now fully translated into French (all thanks to Fifish).

With update 0.7.6 comes a Japanese translation thanks to @BowmoreLover from the ESOUI community.
Together with the new localisation, Clock can now set to show 0 am instead of 12 am at midnight with the 12h setting.

Since 0.7.2 also with Russian localisation! (next to English and German).

With Update 7 a new background feature was added. The Clock - TST never looked that good before. Check it out.
Additional to that and a few bug fixes, you can now have your real time next to the Tamriel time instead of beneath.

You can use this addon together with Harven's Dwemer Clock to get the in-game Time as a fantastic looking, animated clock. Install both addons then right-click on the Dwemer Clock and click "Use Tamriel Standard Time Clock" option. You can change the size of the Dwemer Clock by clicking on it (left mouse button) and then scrolling with your mouse wheel over the Clock.

Check out kerb9729's Addon for Clock - TST: Midnight. It will show you the time until midnight.

Follow the Clock on GitHub to always get the latest beta/alpha Version (caution: unstable)
I will release every stable build here as soon as possible!
If you like an offline desktop application of the Clock to see the current time in Tamriel where ever a PC is, search no further and look here (still an alpha Version)

Features

This AddOn will show you the current time in Tamriel.
It is displayed on the Interface wherever you want it to be - completely movable.
You are also able to set the size, font and style of the clock to your liking.

The time in Tamriel is not a fact.

There is not function in the API which gets us the length back.
Many people right now are trying to figure out how long a day is.
Zenimax Online stated in their FAQ that the time is a bit less than 5h, but after many tests, I am sure it is 5,83h long.
If you agree with me or not is up to you.
You are able to customize the length of the day easily in the Clock - TST settings.
This can be done to a precision of seconds.

The time could be off after a maintenance or something else.
With the settings menu or commands you can choose one out of four times to synchronize the clock.
For example, you see the sun right under your South needle of the compass.
You are sure that it is noon right now.
No problem: Just write /cl noon in the chat or use the "Noon is now!" button in the settings to sync your clock.

The best way to sync your Clock is to set the clock to noon at noon and wait a day or more (in-game).
Then set your time (at noon again) so that your clock shows exactly 12:00.
When this is done you should have a perfectly synced clock
Noon is best because you can see the sun and you have a compass
So just wait until the sun is right under you South sign at your compass.

Right now, the settings and the Clock is localized in English, German and Russian.

If you are from the US or any other country which uses a 12-hour clock, you are able to change the clock to that format too. You can even hide the am/pm signs.
Of course you can use the formats: 12h or 24h wherever you are from.
You can also hide the 0 before a single number: 01:12 -> 1:12.

I personally love to see the seconds pass by. It is fun to see if they reach the zero or step over it (because of the game to real time ratio). It is like the screensaver of a DVD player... you have to watch for some reason.
If they distract you too much - like me - or you just don't want to see them, just disable them.
You can disable to show seconds in the settings menu.

You can let the Clock AddOn show you the current moon phase and the time to the next one.
This feature is like the time not based on a fact but on an adjustable algorithm.
After many months of studying it, I am sure the one cycle is 30 Tamriel days long, but you can still change the length of the different phases.
You can customize the length of a moon phase at the settings menu.

Clock does not stop there.
You can also let the Clock show you the current lore date on your screen either as a real calculated date or a fake one representing the current real date as a lore date.

The look of the time and date are fully customizable.
Write a String like this in the text field in the settings:
_DDD, _D day of _MMM _YY _hh:_mm:_ss

It will return you a date looking like this:
Fredas, 4th day of First Seed 2E 582 07:09:08

If you want the Clock will also show you the current real date and time as customizable as the lore time and date.

TL;DR
Clock - TST gives you a fully customizable lore- (and real-) date and time system with moon cycle integration.

If you want a new feature to be added too, feel free to suggest it here.

Commands

You can easily change all settings in the menu:
The panel can be called with writing the command /clsettings in the chat.
Or To open it press "esc" -> choose "settings" and look for "Clock - Tamriel Standard Time".

If it is too much of a hassle for you, there are also chat commands.
The meta command is /cl
/cl active toggle the clock on or off
/cl date toggle the date on or off
/cl ldate toggle the lore date on or off
/cl fldate toggle the fake lore date on or off
/cl help will give all available commands
/cl moon toggle the lines for the moon phase under your clock on or off
/cl rt toggle the Real Time on or off
/cl reset resets the clock to the default values (all saved values will be lost)
/cl resetUI resets the changes only to the clock look
/cl sec toggle to show seconds on or off
/cl show shows the length of a day and the upcoming times in real world time

Synchronize the Clock
/cl midnight will save the current time as midnight
/cl sunrise will save the current time as sunrise
/cl noon will save the current time as noon
/cl sunset will save the current time as sunset

/cl us Toggle am/pm format on or off

Known Bugs

Clock will "jump" around if you activate or deactivate the date functions

If you notice one please use this link to report it.
It will help me a lot.

If you adjusted this addon to work, please paste it here!

If you adjusted this addon to work and have an accurate moon cycle with it, please copy the contents of your Clock.lua (located in your "Document/Elder Scrolls Online/saved variables" folder). And paste it in a reply here!

You can open it up with notepad, highlight all the contents, copy and just paste it here in a reply! That way we can all have a working version!

Thanks!

I don't think so.
Maybe if they have to make a full reboot of the Server or something like that. But this is very unlikely.
A reason for a out of sync thingy could also be a big addon from Zenimax changing the ingame time system.
But without that the Clock should never be out of Sync after be synced one time right.

To the moon feedback. Yeah the text alignment is not perfect and to change the moon size was also a wish from another player, but my subscription is ending this month and I will, at the time being, not continue it. So new feature will be added only if I return to the game in the future. Until then I will only do bug fixing if a bug appears.

Out of sync?

Will this addon ever go 'out of sync' with in-game time due to patches, maintenance, etc?

Very nice font, just wishing the moon was a little bigger and aligned with the text.

Thanks for the feedback.

4:40 am is correct. The night in Tamriel is only 4h long thus we have 20h daytime.

The second thing, I guess, is a bug. It doesn't make much sense to show am/pm in 24h mode - I will disable it to prevent this bug (couldn't reproduce it though).

Aw, but I want nice round numbers!

Also the recent update screwed up start-of-day calibration so I've had trouble eyeballing it, I'll likely try the street light trick.

The moon phase thing is definite, each "graphic" lasts for three Tamriel nights before it changes. So they must be hard-baked (but incredibly high-res) images/lightmaps. Though it's possible that New Moon covers two of those graphics to give people time to snag a vampire bite for a total of 6 Tamriel nights like you said. I would like to see all the different possible images, though... that might require a lot of astronomical observation. The conversion would make more sense (to me) if it's 8/33*24 but if it turns out there's exactly 10 different graphics seen in the span of 30 Tamriel days before repeating then that settles that.

And yes, MAOofDC, I do find it odd that the moons go from west to east.

Nice to see other people discussing the moon cycle and time here

To the day length:
So I think the day length of 20955s (5h 49m 15s) is really exact.
I am testing this time since the 21.04 where I synced it at noon. Now, four month later, the sun is still under the south needle at noon.

To moon cycle:
I changed a few things in for the next version, the biggest thing is the moon cycle length.
(You can check it out at GitHub but be aware that the GitHub Version is not fully tested and will reset your customizations because I have made changes on the saved variables)
After collecting a lot of data I made a graph in which I found a pattern.
Every 30 days (ingame) a cycle is complete.
The blue lines and points are my data and the other three lines are created with one start value (0 0,5 1) and then added 30*20955 (30 Tamriel days).

You can see that some points nearly overlap.
Wenn taking these created points as real points and creating one function with it it looks nearly perfect:

5,83h/24h*30d = 7,27d which is very close to the real time cycle:

May this as it be, it is very interesting what you, oldbushie, found out about the duration of the single phases and what you, MAOofDC, found out about the lights and lighthouse.

Based on this number I set the day length to 5h 49m 5s.

Also I think I figured out a good way to calibrate during sundown/sunup. Use a light house the light turns on at sundown right?, and stops off at dawn. Maybe in towns without one try when the street lamps kick on. If they are not on all the time I haven't noticed. I got this idea because I just now, happened to see a lighthouse kick on had an eureka moment and I did the quick command just to see. I'll know in 5h 49m 6s.

Confirmed:
Street lights, not torches and fire pits, But the lanterns on poles are on a day/night cycle. The Lighthouse trick only works if there is no fog or rain the next day.

Progress report:
Lanterns appear to start producing light between 17:00 and 17:30. A "Dusk" period perhaps? With known on/off times would it be possible to get an auto calibrate by linking it to the streets lights? Also I hate to say it but I missed Calibrating at noon because of the maintenance. So my time might be off.
I did finally manage to recalibrate at noon.

Maybe sunset and sunrise were set to 05:00 and 17:00 to
include evening and daybreak as part of day/night I don't see the devs doing anything crazy like shorter nights than days 12/12 is easiest.

Have you noticed that the moon rises in the west trying to find midnight with big moon highest in the north.

Awesome! Maybe this means the day duration can be locked down to the proper formula I mentioned instead of hours/minutes/seconds.

I'm still trying to work out the moon phase cycles. This is my current theory (in Tamriel Days):
Full Moon: 6
Wane: 12
New Moon: 3
Wax: 12

For a total of 33.

Based on the "8 days is a moon cycle" thing I keep reading about on vampire guides, and your estimated day length, I think I came up with an accurate count.

8 real days / 33 Tamriel days * 24 hours = 5.81818181 real hours per Tamriel day.

Versus your current estimate of 5.8208333333

I've also seen the same moon pattern three times in a row before it switches, which means there must be 11 different moon phases (or maybe a couple that stay up for 6 Tamriel days instead of 3). That means 8/11*24 = 17.45454545 real hours for each moon phase.

Also, for some reason I've seen 12:30pm show up as 12:30am for instance (corrects itself at 1pm).

Edit: The thing that bugs me is that the wax/wane phase would be 10.5 days by this logic which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Unless one wax phase is a day shorter than one wane phase.

Edit 2: I think the New Moon only lasts 3 Tamriel days, not 6, from what I just observed. Assuming New Moon = just the very underside of the moon being visible.

Hi javish,

I guess all the options can be confusing

You don't have to do anything in the settings menu. All the settings are optional, at least if you play on the EU Server. I don't know the situation on the NA Server but the daytime, should be the same only the sync could be off.
If you notice that the clock is not exact, then you have to do a one time only sync (ok one time each major Update from Zenimax is released because this will reset all addon settings).
You do that by waiting until the sun is right under the compass south needle and then write /cl noon as a chat command or click in the settings menu under Sync [Daylength] on the button "Noon is now!".

The moon is still only a beta feature and a bit off on both servers but will be more exact each version of the Clock. You can test you own settings under Sync [Moon] or just take the moon phase as a hint which moon phase could be right now and wait for a new version of this mod.

Hope this helped you. Just ask if you have another question.
Thanks for the information, it definitely helped!! Great addon!!
