Foundry Tactical Combat (FTC)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.72
by: Atropos [More]
Foundry Tactical Combat is a user interface enhancement for The Elder Scrolls Online designed to give players access to relevant combat data in an easy to process framework which allows them to respond quickly and effectively to evolving combat situations. The multiple components of the FTC addon are designed to restore certain information to the game interface which many gamers may feel is missing from the default minimalistic UI.

The addon is still in active development by Atropos, and will hopefully continue to evolve and improve during the coming weeks and months. If you are a fan of the addon, keep an eye on the main addon page on Tamriel Foundry to ensure you always have the latest version.

FTC Components

Foundry Tactical Combat has six primary components which are each optionally configurable. All UI elements added by FTC can be disabled or repositioned to suit your preferences. Additionally, Foundry Tactical Combat is fully localized for French and German client versions!

Unit Frames – FTC Unit Frames refers to the display of attribute bars and other information pertaining to yourself, your target, and your group members. The FTC frames are designed to be lightweight and informative. The frames show numerical values for your resources and damage shielding, as well as visual indicators for active HoT and DoT effects, your target’s exceute threshold, and more. The unit frames can have a rich set of aesthetic customization options allowing you to achieve the exact look that fits your UI style.

Active Buff Tracking – The Buff Tracking component of FTC displays a configurable list of icons representing the known buff and debuff effects that are currently affecting your character. The ESO addon API does not provide this information for buffs with durations shorter than 30 seconds, but FTC uses an intelligent combination of detection mechanisms to carefully approximate your inventory of active effects. This knowledge can help you make more informed combat decisions, improve your resource management, and optimize your ability rotation.

Combat Log – Foundry Tactical Combat incorporates a text-based combat log which records a history of combat events so that you can review the details of recent encounters. The combat log by default alternates visibility with the ESO chat tab, but can be detached and positioned wherever you desire on-screen. An optional keybinding can be used to quickly toggle the visibility of the combat log.

Scrolling Combat Text – The FTC Scrolling Combat Text component enables real-time display of damage and healing values as they occur in combat as well as a helpful Combat Alerts component that warns your character immediately when significant combat events occur. FTC’s combat text displays the name and icon (when possible) for known sources of damage as well as useful indicators for damage avoidance through shielding, blocking, or dodging. The display style and format of scrolling combat text events can be customized in the settings menu.

Damage Statistics – The Damage Statistics component adds analytical tools to help you examine and improve your combat performance. While in-combat a small DPS meter tracks the length of your current encounter, your cumulative damage-per-second, and your cumulative healing-per-second throughout the fight. After combat has concluded, you can open a full Damage Report which details the composition of your damage and healing by target. These statitics can be linked to your party members in chat using a configurable keybinding or by clicking on the chat icons in the damage report.

Advanced Hotbar – The Advanced Hotbar component improves the default ESO action bar by adding some additional information that is useful in combat. Your current Ultimate pool and your percentage towards the next Ultimate activation is displayed as well as a visual glow indicator behind the ultimate itself which indicates that you are currently generating additional Ultimate in combat. The Advanced Hotbar component also adds an explicit potion cooldown timer so you can know exactly when you will be able to use your next consumable item.

Installation Instructions
To install Foundry Tactical Combat follow these steps. FTC is also supported by Minion, an automated ESO addon management utility.

1) Download FTC_Current.zip to a location of your choosing.
2) Extract the .zip archive into your ESO addons folder found in My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons/ for Windows users, or Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons. for OS X.
3) You should now have a folder inside Addons named “FoundryTacticalCombat” which contains the addon files.
4) Launch The Elder Scrolls Online. FTC should be automatically enabled. If not, go to the Add-Ons section of the game menu and make sure that the box beside Foundry Tactical Combat is checked.
5) Access the FTC configuration settings by navigating in-game to Settings -> Add-Ons -> FTC, or by simply typing “/ftc” into chat.

Updates like a boss!

A couple things. You are right about the customization; it isn't entirely necessary. With the ability to disable all the individual components there are enough options between this and other addons to get the UI looking pretty much however you want while still keeping selected features (see my sig).

I haven't tried the new feature to share with group, however if you are using the ping method from Dicey you might want to check out my Roll Call addon as I have made some improvements and some important and relevant discoveries regarding the map ping method:
  • ZOS applies "normalization" to the X,Y coordinates of map pings which causes results to be unreliable after a certain point.
  • There are three "significant digits" that can be made reliable, being the first three digits to the right of the decimal.
  • In order to prevent even these from being normalized it is necessary to buffer them by adding a placeholder 5 and then a 4 to the 4th and 5th positions after the decimal.

For example, if you want to ping 234 in the X data and 789 in the Y data, send the following with the PingMap command:

Code:
PingMap(MAP_PIN_TYPE_PING, MAP_TYPE_LOCATION_CENTERED, 0.23454, 0.78954)
Even with padding the 4th digit and greater after the decimal cannot be relied on to be accurate 100% of the time, with exponentially increasing randomness the further right you go (by the 6th position it is virtually useless.)

Yeah, this is kinda a tricky issue. Here's a short description of the problem.

Suppose someone is using the custom FTC group and raid frames. Now that person goes to turn those frames off... what do I do with the default frames that I have hidden? Should I show them because now they are not using the FTC frames? Should I leave them hidden in case that person is using a different addon for group frames? Whichever way I go with it, I'm going to be wrong for a bunch of people. I can get around this with some more complicated logic and an extra forced /reloadui whenever you change the setting. That's probably the right solution, but that hurts the user experience with FTC a bit. At the end of the day I'm hoping that people will choose my group/raid frames over those provided by another addon, but I understand that wont be the case for everyone.
Hi thanks for replying, that's fair to say. thanks!

Same issue here. For now my workaround is to keep the frames enabled but drag them out of the screen. A fix would be nice though.

FTC 0.65 Changes

Settings Menu
  • Prevent target frame from disappearing while repositioning elements.

Unit Frames
  • Add group health bar buffering to limit the number of effective updates that are processed per second. This should further improve FTC performance in trial and large pvp group situations.
  • Correct a bug with the tracking of werewolf transformation timer in player frames.
  • Apply localization function to player titles.

Buff Tracking
  • Add correct cast time to Magicka Detonation and morphs.
  • Corrected buff detection of Dark Shades.
  • Do not purge the Hardened Armor buff when it’s damage shield is consumed.
  • Improve the display of Vampirism and Lycanthropy on players. Vampirism will be shown with the tag “V1″ through “V4″ depending on the player’s vampirism stage. Lycanthropy is displayed with the tag “W”.
  • Override standard debuff display logic to always show the timer of your most recent taunt even if you are no longer targetting the taunted target. This is something of a temporary holdover until I develop a better system built into FTC for taunt tracking.

Scrolling Combat Text
  • Add option to change the scroll direction for outgoing and incoming text (up/down).

Combat Log
  • FTC will no long minimize chat on UI reload unless the Alternate With Chat setting is enabled.
  • Prevent triggering an error from using the Toggle Combat Log button when the Combat Log is disabled.

Combat Stats
  • Correct a bug preventing the final hit of damage on a target to be counted in the damage report.
  • Introduce the ability for FTC users to share their DPS with other FTC users in their group after the conclusion of an encounter. This functionality requires members of the group to be using FTC version 0.65+ and can be disabled if you do not wish to share. This feature is flagged as [BETA] and may not work perfectly right away. It can be disabled if it is causing you any problems. Feedback on this feature particularly is welcome. Credit for the idea goes to YayRP for his clever ideas in the “Dicey” addon.

FTC damage report and Killer's Blade

Hello,

I've noticed that the first time i use Killer's Blade in combat damage meter doesn't show it even though it's shown in combat log.

I have tested in in multiple fights and every time i got same result

http://i60.tinypic.com/5wjh9f.jpg <-- Hitting mob only with KB, 5 out of 6 shown.

Bug or Feature - How to disable group/raid frames?

What I'm trying to do is get back to my configuration before this last update. Which is FTC for player frame and scrolling combat text. So basically I use the player frames - but not the target, group or raid frames.

Since there is only the main option to enable/disable "Unit Frames", I thought I could enable at this level then turn off the group/raid pieces separately. But the result is that rather than seeing just the raid/group frames for ggFrames, I also see the default group/raid frames.

So is there something turning back on the default group/raid frames when both group and raid frame types are disabled in FTC?

Context on why I've been running this way up till now: The raid frames for ggFrames tells me when PvP group members are in stealth which FTC does not. FTC does do the role type coloring, but this isn't as valuable as stealth for PvP.

Here's a snapshot of my settings.

- Player frame: ggFrames IMO still has superior user experience and information compared to FTC. I'll keep playing with the settings, but have not been able to make it look right just yet.

- Scrolling combat text. Saw a neat idea in principle and that's to have incoming damage scroll down and outgoing scroll up. Although in practice this may cause seizures in those w/out epilepsy. So who knows.

- Combat text window: please give a button to disable the window vs. requiring me to map a key, I'm running out of keys to map and it's not something I need to instantaneously turn on/off. Propose including the readability that CLS has in terms of color coding and also include all the enable/disable toggles to remove noise from the log. I suppose this is a first rev. Just drives me crazy that everyone has their own log, none of them match numbers or include the good aspects from each. They all miss a big component.
Thanks for the great feedback. I'm adding some of the things you suggest in future versions, and as you say (particularly with the combat log) this is just a first iteration of the FTC log. At the very least I do plan to add filters for different types of damage events.

Yeah, theres a number of people who have said that. I'm definitely considering adding support for this.

  • Target debuff icons need to reset/disappear when combat ends or target dies.
  • Need to keep target frame (and debuffs) shown when target is locked even if you move your mouse away.
  • Need separate width/height configuration for player and target frames.
  • Need ability to adjust the width/height of unit frames down to zero, and the ability to disable borders.
  • Need sliders for the space between buffs/debuffs, and an option to disable borders. Also option to rezize icons.
  • Debuffs are currently duplicated for all mobs named the same and do not update when updating on 2nd same-named mob. There has to be some way to get a mob's instance ID. If not, at the very least the debuffs should update the timer when re-applying to a mob name already being tracked.
  • Need separate in-combat/out-of-combat opacity sliders for player, target, and unit frames.
  • Need to align position by the outer edges of the black border when unlocking, not inner edge.
Thanks for your continued work on this project!
Useful feedback, Phinix, thank you.

1) Target debuffs already have this behavior with the exception of fighting multiple targets in PvE that share the same name. I don't know which debuffs to purge and which to keep, so I currently keep or drop debuffs based on the target name.

2) I tried to do this early on, but couldn't find a reliable logic for achieving it. There doesn't seem to be a unitTag for your "focus target", and the only useful function I have found is IsGameCameraPreferredTargetValid(), which will tell you if you currently HAVE a tab-target, but not which target it is. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this?

3) Is this really a need? My attitude is that there is a cost associated with adding additional configuration options. Your setting menu becomes unwieldy and intimidating. I know people want to control EVERYTHING. What is the use case for asymmetric frames?

4) See above, I don't see myself adding this level of customization.

5) There is no way to get a mobs instance ID. You have no idea how much I wish this were possible. It has always been a thorn in the side of ESO addon developers. It is impossible to tell one "Skeletal Ravager" from another "Skeletal Ravager". However, debuff timers already do update if you re-apply them to a same-named enemy. Have you experienced a case in which this is not true?

6) Again, I'm not sure I clearly grasp the use case for asymmetric frame customizations. It might appeal to 0.01% of the people who would consider using the addon. That's reaching pretty far into the tail...

7) Hmm, yeah, I see what you mean on this. I suppose I should factor the border width into the saved position. I'll mark that for a future update.

Honestly anything that you could possibly consider as "clutter" or "flashiness" can be disabled. Please just play around with the options before you get all dramatic.

How do you turn off all group frames?

I want to use only player frames, not target or group/raid frames. When the group frames are disabled, it turns on the default game frames even when I've ggFrames set to be my group frame.

I'm assuming that I'm missing something because I keep finding settings that I previously didn't see .

Thoughts

Atropos, you do so much for the community, there's just no way I could have anything but appreciation for it all, this addon included. Tried to make sure my comments reflect that. So if I failed, you know what my true intent is before you read.

Initial thoughts on update...

- Overall, a decent short-term for all the newness may be to give us a gamma slider for all so that we can tone back a lot of the new stuff that used to be subtle.

- New icons with shiny border too eye-catching and have found it triggering my attention vs. me looking at it when needed. For now I'll try to play add some gamma changes in the addon to tone it down. As with Srendarr, ggFrames and previous version. The icons didn't need to change IMO.

- EDIT: I found the disable option for the long buffs...

- EDIT: I found the disable mini-experience bar.
