Foundry Tactical Combat (FTC)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.72
by: Atropos [More]
Foundry Tactical Combat is a user interface enhancement for The Elder Scrolls Online designed to give players access to relevant combat data in an easy to process framework which allows them to respond quickly and effectively to evolving combat situations. The multiple components of the FTC addon are designed to restore certain information to the game interface which many gamers may feel is missing from the default minimalistic UI.

The addon is still in active development by Atropos, and will hopefully continue to evolve and improve during the coming weeks and months. If you are a fan of the addon, keep an eye on the main addon page on Tamriel Foundry to ensure you always have the latest version.

FTC Components

Foundry Tactical Combat has six primary components which are each optionally configurable. All UI elements added by FTC can be disabled or repositioned to suit your preferences. Additionally, Foundry Tactical Combat is fully localized for French and German client versions!

Unit Frames – FTC Unit Frames refers to the display of attribute bars and other information pertaining to yourself, your target, and your group members. The FTC frames are designed to be lightweight and informative. The frames show numerical values for your resources and damage shielding, as well as visual indicators for active HoT and DoT effects, your target’s exceute threshold, and more. The unit frames can have a rich set of aesthetic customization options allowing you to achieve the exact look that fits your UI style.

Active Buff Tracking – The Buff Tracking component of FTC displays a configurable list of icons representing the known buff and debuff effects that are currently affecting your character. The ESO addon API does not provide this information for buffs with durations shorter than 30 seconds, but FTC uses an intelligent combination of detection mechanisms to carefully approximate your inventory of active effects. This knowledge can help you make more informed combat decisions, improve your resource management, and optimize your ability rotation.

Combat Log – Foundry Tactical Combat incorporates a text-based combat log which records a history of combat events so that you can review the details of recent encounters. The combat log by default alternates visibility with the ESO chat tab, but can be detached and positioned wherever you desire on-screen. An optional keybinding can be used to quickly toggle the visibility of the combat log.

Scrolling Combat Text – The FTC Scrolling Combat Text component enables real-time display of damage and healing values as they occur in combat as well as a helpful Combat Alerts component that warns your character immediately when significant combat events occur. FTC’s combat text displays the name and icon (when possible) for known sources of damage as well as useful indicators for damage avoidance through shielding, blocking, or dodging. The display style and format of scrolling combat text events can be customized in the settings menu.

Damage Statistics – The Damage Statistics component adds analytical tools to help you examine and improve your combat performance. While in-combat a small DPS meter tracks the length of your current encounter, your cumulative damage-per-second, and your cumulative healing-per-second throughout the fight. After combat has concluded, you can open a full Damage Report which details the composition of your damage and healing by target. These statitics can be linked to your party members in chat using a configurable keybinding or by clicking on the chat icons in the damage report.

Advanced Hotbar – The Advanced Hotbar component improves the default ESO action bar by adding some additional information that is useful in combat. Your current Ultimate pool and your percentage towards the next Ultimate activation is displayed as well as a visual glow indicator behind the ultimate itself which indicates that you are currently generating additional Ultimate in combat. The Advanced Hotbar component also adds an explicit potion cooldown timer so you can know exactly when you will be able to use your next consumable item.

Installation Instructions
To install Foundry Tactical Combat follow these steps. FTC is also supported by Minion, an automated ESO addon management utility.

1) Download FTC_Current.zip to a location of your choosing.
2) Extract the .zip archive into your ESO addons folder found in My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons/ for Windows users, or Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/Addons. for OS X.
3) You should now have a folder inside Addons named “FoundryTacticalCombat” which contains the addon files.
4) Launch The Elder Scrolls Online. FTC should be automatically enabled. If not, go to the Add-Ons section of the game menu and make sure that the box beside Foundry Tactical Combat is checked.
5) Access the FTC configuration settings by navigating in-game to Settings -> Add-Ons -> FTC, or by simply typing “/ftc” into chat.

If there is no menu, it is probably corrupted. Try to uninstall FTC and install it again.
If it doesn't help, try to ask Atropos himself. He is not checking ESOUI every day, but you can definitely find him on Tamriel Foundry (FTC, bugs&feedback).

I really like this addon, especially the damage meter.

There is one thing, however, I have been curious about. Everyone is so obsessed with DPS, especially the folks who have played a lot of MMOs before. But is DPS really the right metric for ESO?

What about damage per resource? Or damage per incoming damage?

The DPS metric motivates a lot of min/maxing, people specializing in one area, and it does not really produce well rounded toons. There are so many glass cannons running around. Wouldn't it be better to do 1k damage on 500 magicka than 700 magicka? Wouldn't an outgoing/incoming damage metric be more to the point, since it takes your defensive skills like dodging, blocking and timing in general into account?

The DPS metric paradigm motivates players to stand and dish out as much damage as possible. Every defensive move hurts DPS, and you'll overpower attributes (at the cost of other attributes) to maximize DPS. Max DPS toons aren't the best toons in ESO. They die quickly without a healer and a tank. To me every point past any softcap is a lost point.

We resort to distinguish between max DP, sustained DPS and AOE DPS, just because DPS by itself is really not all that meaningful.

I think a good way to introduce a new style of thinking into MMO gaming, would be to introduce new metrics like the ones mentioned above into a popular addon like this. People will eventually realize that those metrics are in the end more meaningful than pure DPS, and will try to maximize them.

A nightblade that can dish out 900 sustained dps while only receiving 100 dmg - because he plays well defensively - may be a much better and more useful player than a nightblade who dishes out 1.2k but receives 600 IPS.

The real beauty of this model becomes apparent when you think of the fighting mechanics purely in terms of resource management. Damage costs resources, as well as avoiding damage (dodge/block), as well as healing. You want to cause maximum damage at a minimum cost of health and resources. (Pure damage over time only really plays a role if a boss has fixed-time wave cycles. But this is essentially also a damage over resources mechanic.)

Off the top of my head I can think of two ways to measure Damage Per Resource (DPR) in a concise and simple manner.
- One is taking health at 1.5x of st/ma
- The other is looking at the healing skills and calculating a rough single target heal-per-magicka point value, and use that to translate incoming damage to resources

I don't know which works better, and maybe there is a better idea out there.

I just thought I should share this anti DPS sentiment with the community, and I'm eager to hear what you think about it.

Anything can be done, but it's a lot of coding work for very minimal actual return. Most players set up their settings once (and I agree, it can be a bit annoying), then they go with it. There's bigger things I can improve about the addon so I won't be doing this in the near future.

Good catch, I'll remove this extension.

Hi Eres, you are correct that there is not currently an addon setting to allow you to modify the font. If you want you can go into the addon code and modify the font used manually to one that you like better.

Please see FoundryTacticalCombat/core/UI.lua line 15.

Lua Code:
  1. FTC.Fonts = {}
  2. function FTC.Fonts.meta( size )
  3.     local size = size or 14
  4.     return 'FoundryTacticalCombat/lib/fonts/Metamorphous.otf|'..size..'|soft-shadow-thick'
  5. end

Feel free to change the font declaration to a different font that you like better! If you find one that you think looks really great with the rest of the addon let me know, I'm open to other options
Hello again,

thank you for your response, but before I get into this, I just wanna ensure if this is about the health/stamina/magicka bars thickness. I don't mean font specifically (Arial, Times New Roman etc) but the bars that are not bordered unlike they used to be.

edit: typo

Can there be an option to not have it reload the ui every time I turn something on or off that requires a reload? When I want to turn off or on multiple items it is quite annoying to have it reload between every option. I'd much rather do a single reload when I'm done.

For example, the addon Awesome Guild Store puts an exclamation point in a triangle next to many options and it says when you hover over it: Only is applied after you reload the UI. I can turn those options on/off several times and do them all at once and then do a /reloadui when I'm done. With FTC if I turn off/on buffs, damage stats, combat text, I have to reload the ui 3 times without any input.

ye its an addon issue

the poison debuff just dissspear for few seconds if i try to use skill again, but then it reapply to the target
you may not wana to fix it, its not so important

better add some more buffs/debuff which was missed in the API

is it possible at all? i mean add buff like that:
1) detect if player using bow
2) detect if he doing doubletap
3) detect if he has passive of bow line to increase movement speed
4) show buff for 2 sec after doubletap. increasing movement speed bonus

all buff addons dont shows like a big part of current buffs/debuffs ingame
