Votan's Fisherman  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.16.0
by: votan [More]
DependenciesDescription
This addon stores the type of a fishing hole once a specific fish or bait was catched. The type and the fishes and baits already catched there, are shown in the interaction menu while focusing the fishing hole.
Pins with a corresponding color are added to the map.

Additional:
  • Inspired by the feature request from cnschu in Bait Informer, yet not implemented there: Showing bait usage in quickmenu
  • Inspired by Luminary - FishMe - Know your Bait & Fish: "Reel In" Notification.

The idea from awesomebilly is genius. I rewrote it from scratch. Hopefully more robust against false alerts. Always remember: As it is an indirect indication only, it can be fouled.
In order to avoid false alerts, the notification is suspended, if your are in the menus.
  • If you are using Rare Fish Tracker, this addon allows to auto-hide/show its window. Otherwise the option is disabled.

Known Limitations
There is no API to get the type or position of the fishing hole. It is an estimation. There are locations, where the fishing holes were so close to each other, that even the game itself does not know which to use, depending on your position and heading.

Beschreibung

  • Inspiriert durch Luminary - FishMe - Know your Bait & Fish: "Einholen" Benachrichtigung.

Die Idee von awesomebilly ist genial. Ich hab sie neu geschrieben. Hoffentlich robuster gegen Falschalarme.

Re: Multiple Map Pins

This is not an error, it is due to the position in the game where the spot is available and how your character approaches it. There are many locations in the game. That's why there is an option at Votan's Fisherman "Merge Fishing Holes".

I have to admit my data set is not large enough, just a tad short of 5k of "secondary" bait used and ~120k of "normal" -- and I had fluctuations just using "normal" bait noticeably exceeding the difference between the averaged normal and averaged secondary.
The proposal of @Askedal which Votan has implemented, is a selectable option for all players who have accumulated a lot of caught fishing baits over the years to consume them first. There are no good or bad baits, only suitable and unsuitable baits. ( I have been fishing in Tamriel since 2014 )
Yah, same. My experience is they are kinda identical in effect, so why CALL them "better"?

I mean. It's just perpetuating/giving credence to something that's no more than the urban legend. Which IS in itself a BAD thing.
The name of the option does not matter if the function is fulfilled. And this works very well in this case and is very useful!
Here, I disagree. Would you also say it doesn't matter if it was saying, "Use the bait that gives 3x chance of catching trophy fish by default"?
I only proposed it, because as a non-ESO Plus gamer you have to deal with every inventory slot, so getting rid of the "better" bait helps to free some urgently needed inventory slots without losing useful bait.

The name of the option does not matter if the function is fulfilled. And this works very well in this case and is very useful!
Here, I disagree. Would you also say it doesn't matter if it was saying, "Use the bait that gives 3x chance of catching trophy fish by default"?

Does using the "second hand" bait (e.g., fish roe, or minnows) offer any advantage or difference compared to "normal" bait? When I have tested that, I didn't notice any real difference, at least in terms of trophy fish to normal fish ratio.

Inquiry/Suggestion

Hi Votan. Thanks for the update on the use of fished bait.

Is it possible to set up a function for a chat command that displays the sum of all dismountable fish in the inventory as a chat message? I still use the old addon "AHB182's Simple Fish Counter" which calculates wrong when stacks are full of 200 fish and I find no solution to fix it myself.
If you have any questions, please also contact german PM. Greetings...

I assume you switch out from ESO with ALT-Tab. Try to use the Windows-Key instead.
Unfortunately did not help (

This problem appeared after the last patches of the game =\

Kurzfristig könntest Du in Zeile 39-42 in TypeToSlot die Spalten 1 und 2 tauschen.

It would be even more awesome , if you could paint the fished bait / lure in a different color like orange or so.
Would that be possible ?

Many thanks

Hi, Askeda.
