Accurate World Map v2

REQUIRED LIBRARIES:

About

Accurate World Map v2 (AWM) is the culmination of a months-long endeavour to totally recreate ESO's world map - remastering it in 8k(!) as well as fixing various lore issues, to improve the map's overall quality. It is seamlessly functional with vanilla, and adds new QoL features which are customisable in the addon's settings panel.

Note:

AWM moves zones from their intended location and may/will probably break addons that add pins/edits pins, please make sure these addons are deactivated before install as it may break your installation.

IMPORTANT:

Please DO NOT install or update AWM while the game is still running! ESO only loads textures when the game has been launched from scratch, if you install or update while the game is still running, AWM's textures will not be loaded and thus the addon will not work!

Features
  • Remastered, 8k vanilla-style map
  • Lore friendly overhaul of the map in line with previous games
  • Zones and dungeons moved to their lore accurate places
  • Lore accurate renames of zones and places
  • Customise how wayshrines appear on the world map
  • Gamepad support
  • Other minor QoL features

Compatibility & Known Issues

Any addon that alters the world map in any meaningful way, or adds pins to the world map in vanilla locations are not compatible with this addon, as Accurate World Map moves zones and pins from their vanilla locations to be more accurate with the real shape of Tamriel.

Addon Incompatibilities

The following addons have been tested to be incompatible with AWM:
  • Votan's Tamriel Map
  • Quest Map
  • Highly Detailed World Map
  • Lorebooks
  • EasyTravel
Votan's Tamriel Map alters the world map similar to how AWM does, its zone labels and recoloured hover effects don't show up correctly, and only when you scroll in/out over the zone.

Accurate World Map also overwrites Highly Detailed World Map, so none of its changes will be visible.

Lorebooks relies on the global Tamriel map's positioning for its books, which AWM alters, so installing it with AWM will have issues such as books appearing in the ocean.

Minor Incompatibilities

The following addons may have minor incompatibilities with AWM, untested or otherwise work fine:

  • MapPins
  • Destinations
  • True Exploration
  • DarkUI
  • GuildShrines
  • Votan's Improved Locations
Known Issues
  • We have a few issues to iron out still. Report any found to Github
  • PvP battle marks dont respect map changes, this is a LibMapThemer issue
  • Waypoints no longer appear on the tamriel map, this is intentional as it doesn't display correct positions
  • Various markers may appear in incorrect locations, all these are known and being worked on.
  • English only for descriptions and renames.
Thanks To
  • XyoDarc, TPC9000, Votan, Sir Insidiator, Sharlikan, Baertram, IsJustAGhost and the rest of the ESOUI addon community for their coding help.
  • The authors of Highly Detailed World Map (MrPikPik), uespLog (daveh), GuildShrines (Valve) and World Map Wayshrines Controller (ErianKalil) for inspiration.
  • Everyone who's followed this project and encouraged us along the way.
  • We also appreciate the feedback and bug reports you've been giving us.

In Closing

We hope this addon serves you well in your game and we hope Zenimax sees this addon and takes inspiration to make ESO even better. Everyone who cares about this franchise would love it if they did.

Also Available On
v2.0.3 - 11/03/2023
- fixed bugs
- fixed mouse over with wayshrines
- option to remove zone hover fade added

v2.0.2 - 11/01/2023

- updated build version so settings should be wiped on next boot/reloadui
- various LibMapThemer issues fixed

v2.0.0 - 31/10/2023

It's been a while! If you want to know why it took so long since the last update, check the comments on the addon page

- Updated to Necrom (and Endless Archive)
- Totally overhauled the map style to be more accurate to vanilla ESO
- Merged Eltheric Map into Tamriel Map
- Added zone map labels (ala Votan's Tamriel Map)
- Additional wayshrine filters; by type, by major settlement, and by guildshrines
- Gamepad mode actually works now
- Many many many bugs and issues fixed
- A year's worth of other stuff I've probably forgotten

For addon authors:

We have separated AWM core internals into its own lib, LibMapThemer, which means you can use AWM's map theming tech in your addon if you want to. AWM is now the example implementation of a LMT Theme.

We are also accepting separate theme packs for AWM - look out for documentation on that soon.

v1.2.0 - 07/11/2022

Known Issues:

- Galen's player positioning is off. We are planning to address this with a larger patch.

On gamepad UI left side of world map is very bad, takes a while to be able to zoom into zones like Summerset, Glenumbra, Auridion. High Isle can't be zoomed in at all, never detects you are looking at it.

The gamepad issue is known and should hopefully be fixed in the next major update.

I have a suggestion about new wayshrine display option on the world map, an "utilitarian" preset. If it selected only those wayshrines that have guild traders nearby, or those located in zone capitals will be visible on the world map along with all dungeon, trial and arena pins. In case similar to the Rift zone when there are two wayshrines nearby one of which is in the capital city itself and second is the closest to the guild traders both should be visible on the map. Also if it's possible to show only owned player houses they should also be visible, if it's NOT possible then none should be visible.

Hi Thal - I've updated LibZone to the 8.0.0 version, but I'm still seeing OFF on accurate player positions. I downloaded it again this morning, and deleted the previously downloaded version, then reinstalled LibZone, still set to OFF.

Re: accurate player positions

I've updated the addon with a small patch that should fix this, accurate player positioning is enabled by default now.

Edit: Had to reupload due to an error with the zip, please let me know if there are any issues.

I'm using Votans Tamriel Map now because i like the zone names. They are really helpful for new players and even I need them from time to time.
So would it be much effort to add (optional) Zone Names? This is the only thing keeping me from using AWM.

I've added it to my todo list.

Lorebooks moved away

Actually, all the Lorebooks are moved from their original places and are now in the water.

Lorebooks without accurate addon

Lorebooks with accurate addon

I realised this after i spent the day trying to complete Auridon lorebooks eidetic, and having huge issues finding those.

After 2 hours, i was still missing half of the eidetic because of their modified position.

I removed the addon, and in 30min i could finally find the missing books and complete all.

Any idea to correct this issue ?

Thank you

Re: Lorebooks moved away

I got notified via email that you attached images in your post, but I can't see them nor do they load when i click the links, could you try something like imgur?

I'm not sure how Lorebooks works, but from what you describe it sounds like the books are misplaced in the zone map? This should not be happening because AWM only touches the world map. I did test with Lorebooks before and I did not experience this issue.

Sorry but no idea how to use imgur

As for my post the images are shown directly on the post so no idea what is wrong.

as for the problem i mentionned, its appeared with the last version of your addon.

Horizontaly, the icons are about 2cm away of the place they should be, putting those in the water. But for the vertical position, some icons are 2cm above and others 2cm below.

Your post looks to me like this: (https://i.imgur.com/sZnf7dp.png)

or as an embed:

I reinstalled lorebooks myself and am now seeing the issue. AWM modifies the global positions of zones on the map in the data to reflect where they've been moved to on the map, this is so that fixed player locations work.

So any addon that relies on vanilla Tamriel map's positioning will be wrong. Lorebooks seems to rely on global Tamriel map positions instead of local zone ones, I think this is what is causing the issue. I think since I had already collected all lorebooks and eidetic memory I did not notice this. (I did test on zones such as Grahtwood which have not moved much)

Here is a picture I took of Eastmarch where the issue is more prominent, as AWM moves Eastmarch further to the west:

Other mods I tried like MapPins rely on local zone coordinates for their pins instead of global ones, so they seem fine. Will be chatting with Lorebook's maintainer to see what I can do to fix this issue.

Edit: I have provisionally put Lorebooks in the incompatible category for now, I have also removed "Skyshards" from the Works Great With category as it is maintained by the same author and I suspect will have the same issues.

Update on Lorebooks incompatibility

Edit 26/07/22: Things are a bit more complicated and require work on both sides (see above). The below screenshot is inaccurate as Lorebooks uses a different system for Eidetic Memory vs normal mages guild Lorebooks. Lorebooks work fine with AWM, Eidetic Memory uses Sharlikan's new system which causes warped positioning with AWM. Will require further investigation. I also found out that Skyshards does not use this system, so I will test that myself when I have time. Rest of this message is as was before.

Spoke with Lorebooks maintainer, my understanding is that the issue is due to how the original Lorebooks author coded things, and he is working on overhauling it to fix issues like these. He is working on a patch that should fix the issue, pictured below is a screenshot I took with the new Lorebooks version and AWM:

Just a slight correction. I was working on correcting issues but I have resolved them. What has to happen going forward is I need updated coordinates for all the books. The coordinates do not work with this mod because of how everything uses LibGPS internally. I know Thal-J wants to come up with a solution.

Even without this mod, without updated coordinates not every book will appear on the overland map and any alternate location such as a dungeon or delve. Most authors don't understand you need two pins to accomplish that. Some places like a city you can use the overland pin data but you still have to specify the map ID for the main zone or overland map and the city.

So the corrections are already in place, the data needs updated, but I have already set the format I will be using. I am unfortunately a little burned out at the moment entering data but I always keep working on things when I have time.

There is another conflict, with the Quest Map mod. I noticed it in Shadowfen (there is markers outside of the map).

I love this addon. Love the little sub-features too like the option to have lore friendly names and to show more sub-zones like Icereach and Tempest island. I love seeing the Tamriel map more populated.

The main reason I installed this was when High Isle dropped and I saw where ZOS put the zone. It's egregiously close to Summerset. I thought they were aware of all the issues the map has and would start fixing it rather than creating new problems. This addon came at a perfect time.

(Minor nitpick: I don't think Saintsport on Stros M'kai should be counted as a Major Settlement as it overlaps Port Hunding)
