Welcome to Custom Item Notes!

Created after a request to add notes to items. You can view/update these with the new context menu item "Edit Note" (text is localized). This is a relatively simple implementation that I may expand if anyone has other requests/thoughts/comments on how it could be improved but my aim for this initial release was to keep it fairly simple. Usage should hopefully be pretty straightforward, (see below).

To edit (add/remove) a note from an item:

Open context menu (right-click on Keyboard+Mouse) and select "Edit Note", then SAVE to update the note.
I can add a command to remove all CINs (custom item notes) at once if the desire is there, but for now it's a 1:1 add/remove.

Each note is tied to an item ID and the notes are currently stored account-wide per megaserver.

Lightbulb Request

It would be wonderful if we could change the size and color of the Custom Item Notes icon in the inventory.
I also use FCO ItemSaver and most of the icons tend to overlap the Custom Item Notes icon, especially since the marker is so tiny. Moving the icon on an x & y axis would also be superb, but that sounds a little more complicated, so I don't know if it's something you'd consider.

Hi! I added a screenshot in the images section to show what it should look like. If you mouse-over the item, the note should appear as a tooltip next to the item popup, and once you refresh the inventory there should be a small note icon left of the item in the inventory.

I put a note on an item, but I don't see a way to see that there is a note present, or a means to view the note other than to edit the note.

As far as putting the note in the tooltip, I probably could? But I don't know how many other AddOns already use that space and I don't want to accidentally override other AddOn data as I'm not as familiar with that area. I can think about it, but no promises.

Specific item notes.

Is there any way to set notes to a specific item rather than generically to an item ID?
Or is that an extremely difficult task?

I like to store each character's alternate build equipment in chests so I don't have to carry the items in my bag when not using them in my current build.

For example.
Character FooBar-Joe has a build for tank, DPS, and healer.
I'd like to put a note on his specific build gear that doesn't carry over to all items of same ID.
Healer gear could have: FooBar-Joe Heals
Tank gear could have: FooBar-Joe Tank
DPS gear could have: FooBar-Joe DPS
I don't want to see, for example, "FooBar-Joe Tank" on every item of the same ID.
I only want to see it on his specific items.

It gets a bit confusing looking through a 60 slot chest that has alt build gear in it and trying to remember which sets what items belong to and to which character.

Also, is it possible to have a choice to put the note in the Tool Tip?
Currently, when looking at items in the bag, the note displays on top of the tool tips for equipped gear.


Thanks for this addon.
It has many uses, besides what I also want to use it for.

Looks like this was how it worked in older versions too. At least the versions I tried. So for now it's a 'feature'.

Alright one bug down.

Yeah I noticed that too re: your sidenote. I'll need to download an old version later when I get a moment and see what was the old functionality. If it was always like that, then I guess I'll call it a 'feature'. Otherwise I'll see what I might've changed that would affect it.

Now it correctly removes the old notes too. Adding a new one keeps the old one with the ID and creates a new one with potion effect for potions.

Thanks for the quick feedback! I think I fixed both issues. Hopefully I didn't rush the fix too much, but most bugs bug me.

Feature requests I work on as/when I get time or feel like it, but bugs in my published code... they annoy me.

Alright so I looked at it a bit and had a couple chats with people and I have a question for you. Can you think of any other instances where it would be useful to separate notes, or is this purely something you're interested in regarding potions (and poisons)? (E.G. Same weapon name, different enchantments/traits?) I can come up with something for potions/poisons to make them distinct between effects, but before I go about that I figured I'd check if you saw anywhere else that this approach would be useful.
