Known Issues :
-Do not use a keybind that uses Alt. For example, Alt+Shift+x, Alt+Ctrl+x, all keybinds without Alt are good.
-If you get an error message first read and apply the information from above, written below the headline
After updating pChat please be sure to check the subfolder "lib" is not there anymore. If it is still there: Delete it!

Any problems : Please let me know with a comment or a PM.
Please read the sticky comment (first comment) before posting a bug!

Important information:
Chat addons cannot work properly if the CrownStore is open! This is due to ZOs restrictions to protect the crown store against changes via addons and affects the chat as well.

Other chat addons
FCOChatTabBrain: Auto switch multiple chat tabs upon incoming messges, remember last chat channel at each tab, automatically change chat channels to last incoming one upon pressing <chat start> (RETURN) key, redirect whisper messages, play sound notifications on messages (keywords, friends, group, leaders, guilds), auto switch to group, and many more features.

If your chat addon needs to be compatible with pChat
The CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter only allows 1 function for each EVENT_CHAT_* callback function!
If you assign it new you'll overwrite exisitng ones!
So ALWAYS please check if any other chat addon is enabled, add these other known chat addons to your manifest txt ## OptionalDependsOn: list so the other addons load before your addon, and afterwards "post hook", or manually post hook, the other message formatter callback function -> See example for pChat below.
ATENTION: pChat uses the EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback to register the message formatters! If you want to post hook it you MUST do that after your own EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback! Using EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED will make pChat overwrite your callback function again (and it's no good to use EVENT_ADD_ON_LOADED here as the chat is ready first after first called EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED)!

Example code for your EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED callback function, for the chat message formatter of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL
Lua Code:
  1. local function myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(channelID, from, text, isCustomerService, fromDisplayName)
  2.         --your chat EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callback function
  3.     end
  4.     --For the example OR - Wrapper function for the existing EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction
  5.     local function myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(messageText)
  6.        local messageTextNew = messageText
  7.        --Do whatever you need with the messageText passed in from original function
  8.        return messageTextNew
  9.     end
  10.
  11.
  12.     if pChat == nil then
  13.         --pChat is not loaded: Add your own handler to the CHAT_ROUTER
  14.         --I'd always check if any other chat addon is active though and maybe thus always add the code below, even if pChat is not loaded
  15.         --as it will keep exisitng callback functions of other addons or event add to the original vanilla chat formatter callback function
  16.         CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  17.     else
  18.         --pChat is loaded
  19.         --!!!ATTENTION!!!
  20.         --Do the following at EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED after pChat has set CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, pChatChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver)
  21.         --Get all chat formatters. Table formatters will contain the different chat event entries, like EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL now
  22.         local formatters = CHAT_ROUTER:GetRegisteredMessageFormatters()
  23.         --Get the chat callback function for EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL of pChat
  24.         local originalpChatFormatter = formatters[EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL]
  25.         if originalpChatFormatter then
  26.
  27.            --Either:
  28.             --Post Hook pChat's EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL callbackFunction by re-applying the own handler function
  29.             --which first calls pChat's function, and then your own code
  30.             CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL, function(...)
  31.                 local messageTextOfpChatHandler = originalpChatFormatter(...)
  32.                 --Do something with messageTextOfpChatHandler if you need to
  33.                 return myChatHandlersMessageChannelReceiver(...)
  34.             end)
  35.
  36.           --Or:
  37.           --As the callback function of EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL returns  Instead of a manual posthook your could also define your own "wrapper" function around the original function
  38.           CHAT_ROUTER:RegisterMessageFormatter(EVENT_CHAT_MESSAGE_CHANNEL , function(...)
  39.                     return myOnChatMessageChannelWrapper(originalpChatFormatter (...))
  40.                 end)
  41.
  42.         end
  43.     end

## v10.0.2.0 ## 2021-06-19
-Changed the SavedVariables to Server dependent ones: Means NA and EU server will save different settings and histories now.
Your current "non-server dependent" settings will be automatically copied to the server you login (NA, EU, PTS).
On-screen and chat messages, as well as LibDebugLogger messages (in the DebugLogViewer UI if you use this) will show you what was migrated and as it finished (2 automatic reloadUIs should happen during the migration process).

Attention: You are able to delete the non-server dependent (old) SavedVariables, to clean up the SV file s ize and increase the loading times, by using the chat slag command /pchatdeleteoldsv
BUT: Do NOT use this command before having logged in to ALL of the servers you play on! These non-server dependent settings are used as the copy base for the different servers. Copying SV from e.g. server NA to EU is not possible! So FIRST login to each server you play on, enable pChat and the dependencies, watch the screen for the migration messages and the reloaduis until it says finished.
After having migrated all servers you can use the slash command to delete the old SV file contents.

## v10.0.0.3 ##
After some users were not able to find the name format dropdown boxes for guilds and groups in the chat channel submenus, and thought the name format setting in the chat message submenu would apply to all chat messages:
Changed the settings so that the "name format" dropdown boxes for guild and group are also shown (duplicate) in the "message options"->"names in messages" submenu.

Hopefully the "bug reports" stop now as you will find them all at one spot :-)

## v10.0.0.1 ##

Attention: If you got the addon "DebugLogViewer" enabled the debug messages of addons will be ONLY shown in the DebugLogViewer UI/Quicklog UI, and NOT in the normal chat anymore! This is normal and an intended behaviour.
-Chat tab switch to default chat tab, after login

Added:
-Settings to enable/disable the chat format handlers (colors, timestamps, names, etc.).
You can find these settings as new submenu inside the "Message settings" submenu.
The following chat handlers can be enable/disabled:
  • System messages
  • Group left
  • Group type change
  • Friends list online status
  • Ignore list added
  • Ignore list removed
Standard setting value is: Enabled
You can use them to disable the chat formatters for e.g. online status and thus fix problems with other addons like "No Thank You".
You MUST reload the UI to change these settings so be sure to do so after changing the checkboxe values.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: noob question

Still not understanding all you write.
Please, if you check the beta settings and someting is not working, tell me which submenu and what setting "in detail" and how to rebuild the bug then. This way I'll be able to fix it.
Not sure e.g. what you meant with the guild Ids and character Ids. I guess you mean you could select the chat output method for the guilds to be e.g. @accountName but it did show it in another format.
Or you could not select it. Not sure what exactly you meant

Take your time.

Before login go to the users/---/documents/elder scrolls online/live folder and make a backup of the AddOnSettings.txt, then delete it.
And also delete the shader_cache.cooked file.
1st login will take bit longer then but all textures etc. will be reset this way and your chosen addons at the character selection screen as well.

Go back to the offical version of pChat then please.

I don't know what the problem, is for you here but you should try another addon like this for the system messages then: https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info...Clipboard.html

And not sure what you mean by this:

Options in the beta were moved to the appropriate submenus where they belong "together". The old settings were just clustered and everywhere where they made no sense. So watch the submenus, all settings belonging together ARE in the same submenus or categories now.

Or this?

What setting do you refer to and what opacity and what changes if you do waht? More details could help me to fix a bug within the beta, maybe. Thanks
i think the slider is between 0-11? i think i 0 means no opacity and 11 full transparent? since i deleted eso already cuz i wanted a clean install same for all addons i cant log in to check...but i put it at 0 and it was no longer that pure black...it was more of a faded black...basically the game default of non-opacity, maybe it was/is a bug? i dont know
regarding the submenus i meant i did the new setting but i was no longer able to selected old stuff like guild names formats...instead it was stuck at character names and i always keep character name+@ID and this time there was no way to make it work like that again even tough I DID SELECTED that format...anyway since i am doing fresh install on everything now i will install 1 by 1 and start with pchat...who knows what broke my eso or i dont even know anymore...but hopefully that will fix it and thank you again for your replies and sry to be such a bother

So... I've been having an issue where every name in all chats is turning /say white. System messages are all posting to /say instead of system and I can't figure out what to do to fix it. I've done everything from fresh reinstall of eso and addons, but don't know what to do. Chat colors work fine in rchat, so it's clearly something conflicting with pchat.

Never had this happen so far and I'm not quite sure if I understand the error correctly as well.
"Your /say color is white and everything that is posted is white, no matter what channel it used?"
btw: pChat and rChat should NOT be enabled together!

As noone of you seems to reads the sticky post above nor answers the questions written there automatically without having me to ask you again each time I'm going to repeat it again...
Note down your active addons or use an addon profile addon like "Addon Selector" to save the ones active.
Disable all addons and libs then.
Then only enable pChat + needed libs.

Did you test with ONLY pChat and libs needed activated? Is the error reproducable then? If so: How (steps please)?

If it's not reproducable with ONLY pChat enable the other chat related addons (which you have noted down before) ONE AFTER ANOTHER and test if it's reproducable then. If not, enable other addons again as well.
Tell me which addon breaks it for you then.

Many thanks.

I did read the sticky, and as I said in my post but not clearly enough, I tested this with pchat alone. In alternatives, such as rchat, it was working just fine. I am not using them simultaneously, just merely stating that it doesn't do this in the alternative program, but rchat has many other issues that this one does not. What it was doing is turning my system messages, such as my log in and log out notices and sending them to the /say local chat window, as well as turning all character names and account names into the same /say color. I know it was that color because changing /say changed the coloring of their appearance.

After doing more research on my end, I found it was a corrupted library leftover from Social indicators, and had to fully delete the addon folder contents to empty it out. Since then, I narrowed it down to being incompatible with the addon, which your sticky states. But now I run into a new issue, where my chat window's transparency is forced to minimum and I cannot change it regardless of settings.

Okay, thanks for the head up.

Again something which works flawlessly at my end.
Maybe another leftover included old/outdated library in any subfolder of an addon?

Could you please try if the pChat beta version linked in the sticky fixes this problem for you.
But it also changes the settings of pChat to submenus where relating settings are grouped where these makes sense.
So you might need to search the settings if you are currently used to the old pChat "long list" settings menu (where every setting was just put no-matter where it belongs...).

Using the beta version now, and still running into the same problem. Changing the slider for the chat background transparency doesn't actually change it. I currently have it set to 10 and it's completely see-through.

Screenshot: https://gyazo.com/61e2effb4b3837d25c6299edd794808a

And.... apparently there's the issue. Setting 9. After fully restarting game again, setting 9 is coming up as transparency 0, and a few other numbers are out of wack.

Gif here: https://gyazo.com/43cc4de2022cbef9a3e9c27c378fe7a6

Not sure what would cause that.

Edit: Further testing with Social Indicators (so you have a target to look at) Seems to be limited specifically to the setting for: "Show indicators in UI". Leaving that off gives no pchat conflicts for me, all other settings can be turned on just fine.

Weird, my transparency slider works normally. 9 looks like that:

Moving the slider from 0 to 11 and back, reloadui in between. Everything seems normal.
Any "steps" you can tell me to get your GIF shown problems? What do I need to do in detail to get it
behave like this? thanks

The only thing I noticed is that after having moved the sloder to something >5 and then going back to 0 will somehow leave the 0 look like not transparent but something like ~6 or ~8.
But after moving the slider up to 1 or 2 e.g. and back to 0 it's transparent again.

So you might need to search the settings if you are currently used to the old pChat "long list" settings menu (where every setting was just put no-matter where it belongs...).

Logged out. Downloaded the zip file, and dumped it into the addons folder before unpacking it. Deleted pchat and replaced files then logged back in. Everything seemed as expected and working aside from transparency and white names. Found out how to resolve the white names by disabling the specific setting in Social Indicators, and after logging out and in one more time, started playing with the sliders and sent the previously seen gif.

And.... apparently there's the issue. Setting 9. After fully restarting game again, setting 9 is coming up as transparency 0, and a few other numbers are out of wack.

Not sure what would cause that.

Edit: Further testing with Social Indicators (so you have a target to look at) Seems to be limited specifically to the setting for: "Show indicators in UI". Leaving that off gives no pchat conflicts for me, all other settings can be turned on just fine.

Again something which works flawlessly at my end.
Maybe another leftover included old/outdated library in any subfolder of an addon?

Thanks, but I meant the part "playing with the sliders"
Everything else was clear to me.
I only need the steps like "set it to 5", Chat bg is half transparent. "set it to 12",chat bg is black. "Set it to 9",chat bg is still black but should be less dark, etc.

Oh... in my initial post, there's a gif that shows each of the settings and how they appear with the chat window. I'll post it again here: https://gyazo.com/43cc4de2022cbef9a3e9c27c378fe7a6

Okay, I saw that one. Just was not able to reproduce it.
So I thought there must be something in before to behave it like this, like you said you did a reloadui? And before changed the slider to 9?

So I thought there must be some circumstances/steps like
1. login
2. change slider to 9
3. reloadui
4. Moved slider to 0 again
5. like shown at the gif

Settings menu in chat?

Hi!
Since about 2 days (i do not remember it precisely) i've got a small problem with pchat, nothing major nor addon breaking, just mildly annoying. Part of the setting menu (or at least i believe it is part of it) gets posted at log-in and when every time I reload the ui.

Screen:

I've disabled every add-on but pchat and its depencencies. I admit that i'm an absolute ignorant on how these things work so i might've messed up something, even if i doubt it, since the problem popped up in existance by itself.

Re: Settings menu in chat?

This my friend is not pChat. The chat says somethign about combat and buffs. So this is any buff addon you are using like Srendar or similar where you have enabled "debug" mode.
PChat only is the trigger to show that stuff at login before the chat was loaded -> pChat provides this helper so you can see chat output of addons before event_player-activated enables the chat on vanilla UI.

So check your addons for the chat text and find out which one is causing the texts.
You can use tools like Notepad++ to use file->search->search in files: Choose your libe/AddOns folder and scan for the text or portions of it (like ".(" or "setFunc=") and you'll find the addon.
Then check the settings menu of this addon if there is some "debug" setting you can turn off, or contact the author to remove the debug lines.

Else you need to deal with it as pchat will always enable this and you shouldn't blame pChat for debug output of other addons

Re: Re: Settings menu in chat?

I'm not blaming pchat, i'm trying to figure out why it does that. Being ignorant, i assumed that if i disabled every addon the text should not appear (Yes I don't understand a thing about how addon works)

There's something i quite don't understand yet about this situation but i'll check with notepad++ before typing new stuff. thank you for your support!

Re: Re: Re: Settings menu in chat?

Ask what you do not understand and I might be able to explain it to you.

Basically the chat will not be ready to see output for the "human" eye before the event_player_activated was fired by the game. This fires after login after all addons were loaded properly.

But addons and the vanilla Ui also are able to post to the chat BEFORE this happens. We just don#t see it except if we use pChat or LibDebugLogger and the UI for it DebugLogViewer e.g. which are able to capture these messages and show them as soon as the chat is ready.
So normally these messages of addons sent to the chat which happen before the chat is ready are also there but just not visible. And some addons "make them visible" then.

So the addons are not causing it. It's more or less "a feature" to show these messages. And this feature is something addon devs like me NEED to develop the addons more easily or even users want to have and use. And some, like you, never needed it and just happen to stumble upon it due to other addons posting nonsense before the chat was initialized, where the devs of these addons though: Oh they don't see it anyway...
