Quest Buddy  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.244
by: lyravega [More]
Discontinued
Moved to Wildstar. No one wanted to maintain my little add-ons. Some even went far and made fun of the small userbase. I allow no one to continue/maintain my work unless I explicitly say so. Forgive me.

Description
This add-on is your buddy, and features options to make questing a little bit easier and maybe a little bit faster, especially for groups & friends. Heavily customizable, and as light-weight as possible. There also are features that'll make other people happy as well.

Be sure to set the features up the way you want from the Settings Menu. If you are upgrading from an old version, resetting settings to default at least once is a good idea.

If you are unsure what to set/use, the default settings are just fine, but may require little tweaking to suit your tastes. Help icons are provided where a setting may be confusing.

Features
-Buddy Features: add buddy characters to the list to automatically accept their trade requests and/or group invites... not just that, but adjust the loot notifications so it displays the loot your buddies get instead of the whole group/raid! More features will (hopefully) follow
-Quest Focus & Sharing: automatically focus on the quests you newly acquire and/or progress in, share the new quests you get with your group. An option can be set to turn these features off in Cyrodiil, so that nothing will get between you and your victim in there.

-Customizable Loot Notifications: allows heavy customization; color, item quality filter, item icon & icon size, gold amount, minimum gold threshold, notification consolidation, etc... for the loot you and/or your group gets. Supports buddy character feature, allowing you to peek through only the loot your buddies get.
-Trash Treatment & Auto Repair: auto-mark trash items as junk, and auto-sell them if you choose to do so, while repairing those items in need of repair, minimizing the amount of time you spend in-between quests
-Simple Chat Commands: list them all by writing "/qb h" in chat; leave/disband group or teleport to leader with simple commands
-Quest Offer Icon Replace: never miss any quest due to similar quest offer and not focused quest icons
-Compatible with Set Buddy
and more...

In-Progress
-XP gain notifications
-Code optimization
-Code clean-up

Known Issues
-You may get an error that may point to "PlayerToPlayer.lua". This is probably caused by either you or the add-on trying to accept a quest that is no longer valid, already accepted in other words. Will be getting rid of these delays to avoid the issue.
-Events (delve / group dungeon quests) may not look like they are accepted automatically, however they are actually accepted and it is the screen notification that stays. You won't miss anything, in short

Question for Users
I have a question for you. The features are expanding beyond the initial scope of this mod, should the name stay, or should it be changed? Do you have a suggestion? Or should I just butcher the mod, and release parts individually? Though, I'm against the last idea, since the mod doesn't even register the events unless a feature is turned on, it is the same as not installing the individual parts. Anyway, let me know if you have anything to say about it.

Ok, thanks for the answer on both questions. Much appreciated.

Wait, buddy loot ALSO displays your own loot? I don't think that is desirable. Buddy loot notification should only show the buddies loot, not yours as well.

Also, what about buddies AND group? And how about other options like raid and group? Perhaps having toggles for each of those would give an option to customize however people want.

Quick question: Does auto-repair only repair equipped eq or all?

Additionally, would you add an option for both like the other repair add-on's? I would love to be able to drop an add-on and just use Quest buddy for repairing instead but dependent on not wasting money on repairing items that I will deconstruct anyway.

Small request. The alternate quest icon. Could the glow be changed to like neon blue or green in order to stand out more on the compass?
Thanks for the kind words

About the request, I just noticed that it is still failing to replace the quest offer icon sometimes... Just reload your UI next to an offer, and see the alt. icon. For some reason, it sometimes doesn't do it automatically, and I have no clue... But I'll keep looking into it

About the other request, I'll take a look at loot functions. Currently I am using an event that fires when you loot something, and taking items from a mail or crafting items are not included. But there is another event which I use for something else, I'll probably move onto that one as it will be a bit more reliable and smoother, would also allow more possibilities.

1 more. Show loot notifications for items from mailbox and crafting.

Auto-accept and share are very handy. Does auto-share work automatically when I join a group - meaning will the addon share all of my quests with a group when I join? I have not noticed that but it would be handy - or better a hotkey to share all.

Actually, the group loot messaging doesn't work the way I thought it would. I am the only one of my group that has this addon installed and I have my addon filter set to green and above. Idefinitely get a message showing what my group members loot but they do not get a message showing what I loot. Is this correct? Would the just need to install the addon to see that info? I guess I thought it would be a group chat message (orange) but it is really a chat box message (whatever that is called).

Part of my confusion is probably that I have a lot of addons I really like the features of each but at times they overlap and I need to spend some time figuring out options, etc..

Thanks for the work on this.
The "share all quests" button idea is nice, I'll implement that thing later on next week along with some other modifications I believe. But no, you don't share all quests you have when you enter a group.

The loot notifications you see are only seen by you, correct.

I believe you are getting double the loot notifications for the stuff you loot. I had to sacrifice some options (like disabling self notifications but keep group ones active) in order to save space, and avoid confusion when trying to configure the add-on. If you had seen the previous internal versions (the ones you guys never see), the notification options were a lot bigger and very confusing, even for me. That said, I'll try to come up with a way so that you can disable it, or if you want I can just send you a modified add-on file where self loot notifications are disabled by default.

We all have a lot of add-ons (I believe) and indeed their features overlap sometimes. Wish most of what we are trying to implement / have implemented was already part of the game...

I just don't want most of the other features. I will give it a try when I get home later.

I think that keeping all of the features of your mod would be fine as long as disabling any one feature was possible and didn't cause any effect to the game by doing so. I agree that the minimap feature is already handled very well through ZRMM. I also use Loot Filter Remix and find it incredibly useful - so that is a feature I would tun off. Group reporting of green+ loot is good to leave on as I play with a close group of people and we generally pause to link new useful loot to see who could use it.

Actually - and I have no coding xp at all to base the difficulty of this on - if you are planning on adding a variety of features you may want to break things down to different modules and have them able to talk to one another as needed.
Thanks for the comment man, I really appreciate you taking your time to write it, since it helps me.

No need to worry about the minimap idea; I saw another add-on doing the same exactly the way I wanted it, so I just shelved the idea.

About the loot notifications; group setting includes self, and raid includes all above. There is no way to disable it individually at the moment (or the options menu would grow even larger), but you can set the quality filter to the highest, and turn gold notifications off. Or, you can edit the code (open the questBuddy.lua with notepad), and change this line:

Code:
if self then QB_SelfLootParser( "You", itemName:gsub("%^%a+",""), quantity, QB_vars.lootNotificationOptions.selfLootColor )
to

Code:
if self then return
That'd effectively disable it, and questBuddy will not show any loot you get, but will still show the stuff your group gets.

It's at the bottom of my to do list, don't worry :P At the moment, I'm not happy with some of the functions I've written, brainstorming on how to (re)write them in a different way.

No MiniMap please

Can I suggest not adding in a minimap? The existing ZrMiniMap (Modified) addon does a good job already, no inherent reason to duplicate effort.
