For more info type /channelinfo

Although I do not want to discriminate anyone who uses cyrillic, i still find myself distracted when reading it in the chat, so i wrote this addon to filter those messages.

If you find any bugs or have suggestions contact me @SoftDeath (EU)

To clarify the current behaviour:
Filtered chat channels include: All guilds, zones, say and yell
The following channels will NOT be filtered: Officers, whisper and messages in any channel written bei yourself

You can change the behaviour via the settings menu.

The old slashcommands are still working:
Type /channel <channelname> into the chat
e.g. /channel tell
This would add the tell channel to the filtered channels

Type /channelstatus to see which channels are being filtered
Type /channelinfo to see this tutorial ingame

I already considered to add detailed options and will do so as soon as i got the time (propably this weeken, but don't hold me to it

)

As to your first point:
Currently it does NOT filter messages you write yourself, get as a whisper or in an officers chat, as i consider all of them to be importent.
It also does not filter messages in group chat and i am still not sure if i should change that but i propably will.
As soon as i added a detailed options menu the current state will be default behaviour

You might want to check out LAM for that. It makes adding a menu quite simple.
If you'd like to see it in action, my DailyAutoShare uses what I currently consider best practice - I have the DASUserSettingsAdapter which holds GetXX and SetXX functions for every settings item, all interaction between the AddOn and the SavedVariables happens over these functions.

That's awesome *installs*. Wasn't clear from the description, though, you might want to edit it? (In case you have no idea how, there's a "manage add-on" link on the upper right of the AddOn-page. Which I didn't see before Cairenn pointed it out to me. -.-)

I then have been thinking about a chat some time ago with a friend from russia, and we came upon that, that the main problem about cyrillic in eso is the bad letter spacing - i wish for an addon, which just corrects the letter spacing by changing the font of cyrillic in chat (adding another font, which better supports cyrillic). Maybe cyrillic wouldn't look that grose as it does at the moment in chat then Could be an additional option for your addon too

So instead of removing a language you can't read anyways and which is spamming zone quite excessively you think it's a better idea to make it look nice... Right.

Sometimes I used google tools for polish or greek translation, it was not difficultly for me to do that. But if u cannot see all the chat, how will u play together with other players? I lived in europe for 10 years and 15 after that in russia, and can speak the language freely.
And from my perspective, russians are worst of all people i've encountered.
They always try to scam you, never keep their word, and do not give a **** about anybody else, but their own, to start the list.
Blocking them from chat just made my playing ten times more enjoyable.

There are two problems with cyrillic in the chat: I don't understand it AND it just looks stupid due to the font ESO is using.
The suggestion Verbalinkontinenz made was a good one, but does not solve the underlying problem for me and all the other people using my addon.
Tbh i even considered filtering french as well, but i did not do so yet due to two reasons:
It does not look that disturbing and i even so i never had french i understand it up to a certain point.

I and many others play computer games to enjoy them and communicate with other people.
As there just is no communication with somone not speaking a language i understand, there is no need to listen to it or read it.
Zone chat is crowded enough even without cyrillic.

On a final note: I welcome discussion about my addon, but don't insult each other or i will have to delete such comments

Barging in with "OMG how stupid" isn't polite and seeing the recent posts I'm afraid it's too late for that. They refuse to use the international language and basically exclude us from their discussions, fine - speak whatever language you like. But now you have to justify yourself and are called a racist for not putting in the effort to decipher their hieroglyphs. That's ridiculous and I'm not sure why you're even entertaining this obvious double standard.
