Group Death Notifier

A simple addon that displays a message on screen when a member of your group dies or is resurrected.

Sometimes when you're in a fight and the tank or healer dies, nobody notices and the group wipes. With Group Death Notifier you'll see the exact moment someone in your group dies along with their role so you can respond to critical situations faster.

Group Death Notifier allows you to filter out notifications based on group size and role. For example if you only want to see when the Healer or Tank dies in a trial, you can filter out DPS messages in trial sized groups.

Note: Group Death Notifier does not show alerts in Battlegrounds.

Settings

Access the settings menu by typing /gdn in chat (or by looking under Settings -> Addons -> Group Death Notifier)

You can change the font size and color, reposition the notifications and adjust how long the alert remains on screen. You'll also find filter settings to show or hide alerts based on role and group size.

You can also reset the position of the notification and/or all settings back to defaults.

If your notifications are off center, use the Reset to Defaults button to recenter them and they should stay that way.

Thanks for the feedback Baertram, I appreciate someone with a lot of experience working with this API giving such help, especially since the API documentation is kind of sparse. I'll work on implementing these improvements this week.

With your addon enabled the top level control (tlc) of the addon is invisble but in the center of the screen somewhere and you cannot see the tooltip of skills, or drag&drop skills, where your tlc is positioned, if you open the skills menu.
Please make the tlc hide if menus are opened!

Controls, even if totaly invisible on the screen, use the space if they are mouse enabled (and they need to be to drag&drop + move them), so you need to make them hidden via tlc:SetHidden(true) where they are not needed.

And somehow, if your addon is active, my game reacts slower after some time.
Do you use event filters to only filter death messages of group members?

They are run at the C code before even the lua code is called, and are way faster, for most possible filters, then building some checks in your lua event callback function manually.
e.g. an event filter with

REGISTER_FILTER_UNIT_TAG_PREFIX
where the unittag prefix is "group" will be much faster than checking manually in the death events if the unitTag was in the group or starts with "group"!
