Clarity  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.0.5
by: Dio [More]
Clarity reduces addon UI clutter by allowing you to show or hide frames with a keybind.

Clarity puts frames in three groups:

  • Detected Addons - Frames that are definitely from an addon.
  • Other Frames - Frames that are most likely from an addon.
  • Advanced - Frames that are not from an addon. For example, if you want to hide the compass and toggle it with Clarity, you would check "Compass" and "CompassFrame".

How to use

Simply check the frames you want Clarity to affect, then make sure you have Clarity keybound under "Controls -> Keybindings -> General -> Clarity -> Toggle Clarity".

Remember to reload the UI after making changes!

Possible upcoming features

  • Toggle specified frames only if in or out of combat.
Version 1.0.5

- Should fix Clarity's options menu not showing up, as well as the keybinding not showing.
- Clarity now initiates upon EVENT_PLAYER_ACTIVATED, instead of addon loading. This gives it a high chance of all TLWs being registered.
- Some code refactoring.

Version 1.0.4-Fix

- Reuploaded. OS X sort of messed up the folder structure of the archive.

Version 1.0.4

- New option: "Toggle Upon Menu". Clarity will activate automatically upon entering any character menus. Does not apply to system menus. Clarity will return to its previous state after leaving any character menus.
- Clarity now enforces itself to be hidden. It does this by removing the ability for other TLWs to hide themselves (temporarily assign SetHidden to an empty function). It's possible this could have some unseen consequences, for example if a frame continually checks if it's hidden and tries to show itself. Please report any bugs.
- Various code refactoring.

Version 1.0.3

- Clarity can now apply to core TLWs (ZO_*). For example, if you wanted to hide the compass and toggle it with Clarity.
- This version will reset your Clarity settings due to core changes. (Sorry, I forgot to mention that when I posted the addon!)

Version 1.0.2

- Bug: If multiple TLWs of one detected addon exist, use the TLW's unique name instead of the non-unique addon name. Fix for addons like "Recount".
- Small fix to sort addons by title instead of name.

Version 1.0.1

- Sort the "Detected AddOns" and "Other Frames" lists.

I see under known issues about Clarity not actively hiding addons, however there is one addon that I am having an issue with that would be awesome to get you to look at. "Craft Research Timer" It shows up under the second sections under Clarities settings menu. I hotkeys the addon and toggled it on/off as well as reloading the ui several times. It is the only addon that does not toggle off.

Thanks

Possible Issues
Clarity does not actively enforce TLWs to be hidden. If a TLW that was made hidden by Clarity unhides itself, for whatever reason, it will remain visible until you toggle Clarity again. I may come up with a solution to this at some point, but currently I think most addons play nicely and don't try to actively make themselves visible.
I am DEFINITELY running into this problem. Initially, I only downloaded Clarity to hide the compass, since I am using the minimap addon. However, the compass is constantly coming back by doing things like focusing on the chat window then going back to the main screen, talking to an NPC, etc. It kind of makes the addon moot I hope to see a fix, because I really LOVE the idea of hiding that stupid compass! <3

Keep up the great work

I will try to enforce hidden while Clarity is toggled in the next update.

Until then, if you just want to hide the compass I recommend Wykkyd's Full Immersion which does that properly.

is there any way to get clarity to automatically hide certain mods when going into inventory or the map so it doesn't overlap (mainly craft research timer)

Thank you, Dio I will try that out, but still hang on to Clarity to see how it goes with more updates

Absolutely, that's a great idea. I'll see if I can get it in the next release.

Edit - On second thought, the only way it could be done without tremendously complicating the options is a single option to have *all* Clarity-enabled addons automatically hide when *any* menu is open. This would be no different than hitting the Clarity toggle, but it's done automatically. If you still see value in that, I can add it. Unfortunately having it specific to certain menus and certain mods would make for an extremely complicated options panel.

no that's perfectly fine (perhaps an option for those who don't like it?) as i don't generally use a lot of addons but had SEVERE issues with crafting timer as i couldnt find a place to put them where they didnt overlap with SOMETHING. speaking of which i couldnt get crafting research timer to work with clarity - even when it's selected pressing the hotkey didn't do anything. Other mods worked fine though.

Other than the crafting timer for some reason not working the reason i wanted this change was i didn't want to always press say ' then i for inventory everytime so automation is exactly what i would have hoped for.

UI Error - bizarre screen adjustment mode activated on Clarity toggle

Title says it all. I'm getting kicked into some screen brightness adjustment every time I toggle on Clarity, regardless of the addon its paired with (tested about a dozen main ones).

The UI error is hard to read, as there are a few layers going on here, but I think you can make it out if y ou zoom in. (ImGur Link)

Once toggled, it's a soft crash: no way to exit the menu other than force quitting (even mouse input fails).

I've tried deleting the addons and reinstalling for a fresh control case, and I can't get the addon to work for me at all. I'm running OSX 10.9.2 on a 2013 iMac.

Anyone else?

Hm.. when this happens, could you go to your SavedVariables folder (located in the same directory as the AddOns folder) and upload/paste Clarity.lua? I have not seen that happen before. Wild guess would be you have a "ZO_" frame checked and it's toggling it on, but I'm not sure.

First off, thanks for this. However, either there is a little 6 legged creature or I am too stupid. I don't get the keybings to show up. The Menu at Settings does show (but this also made some troubles at first.) I did uninstall all other Addons and did repair the game still no success.

Best,
BeAFrog

I will have a new version out today or tomorrow that *might* address these problems (mostly with the menu sometimes not showing up).

When you say the keybindings don't show up, you mean the "Toggle Clarity" keybinding does not show as in this screenshot?

Last update was great! I just updated and my problem of which I was going to comment is gone it now keeps wykkyd's quest tracker hidden when I tell it so. great. my immersion options are widened ;P
I love your add-on because it provides us with so many creative options, like using it for one-button immersion similar to "hide UI" (which is only actually good for taking screenies) but with keeping vital functions or more than vital, all about the preference, so you can use it as a minimum-ui toggle or as a little macro for bringing up needed windows, as a macro for bringing up other add-ons etc. so many creative uses for it! but you can only do ONE of these things with it, which leads me to what I originally wanted to comment about here already for a few days.
I wanted to suggest an option which I think this great add-on lacks for a superior flexibility!
Make it so we have several presets, several activational buttons. It's like having 2 or 3... or 5 of clarities installed, you can mix them or you can use them independently as presets for clarity, so for example I have my Clarity button 1 assigned for deactivating frames I don't want to see in my exploration mode and I have my clarity button 2 assigned for a different set of frames\add-ons to turn on\off for bringing my timers\informative\crafting frames up and down and I have also my 3rd clarity button for something completely different (you know... aaa~ larch.. or something reference, haha). They also can be put into one and the same clarity option window for compact-ness and each frame can be either lighened in different\several colors (if the feature is without an option to use the same frames in different presets) or to add some numbers near the frame names or something like that. Or well if that's tough just a long clarity menu with separate Clarity 1, Clarity 2 and so on sections. I think that would be hilarious!
Anyway thanks for the attention for my wall of text if you made it ^^"
Great work so far! Keep it up, I love this one
P.S. you know I currently use clarity with wykkyd's immersion add-on just for this option to mix and have variations without always continuously changing options everywhere. But I think clarity can do it all and even more

Hotkey not appearing in Controls

Hi,

I do have the same issue as BeAFrog. I do not have any other addon installed, tried a ESO repair and several times installed and uninstalled Clarity but to no avail. Later when I tried another addon that also offers hotkey support (EasyQuickSlots) this works like a charm. So it does not seem to be a general problem with addons that do use hotkeys.

See You

Re: Hotkey not appearing in Controls

Hey guys, don't run repair if you have an addon problem. It's highly unlikely a non-working addon would be fixed by repairing your game client. I suppose if all your addons did not work, despite being enabled, you may have a client problem, but a single non-working addon isn't going to be fixed by repairing ESO. Usually it's just a bug in the addon.

I will have a fix out tonight or tomorrow that may solve the Clarity issues posted by a few of you.
