ESO SavedVariables Auto Backup

The program for working with backups SavedVariables of The Elder Scrolls Online.

You can not only create backups manually, but also automatically. For example, when starting a program or exiting the game. ESVAB is very simple and does not require a lot of system resources.

System requirements:
  • Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 (Tested only on Win 10)
  • .NET Framework 4.7.2+

How to install:
  1. Download the archive and unpack it to a convenient place. (I highly recommend just putting it in the folder /Documents /Elder Scrolls Online/)
  2. Run ESO SavedVariables Auto backup.exe
  3. In the window that opens, click next
  4. Select the Elder Scrolls Online directory in the Documents directory. The program itself should find this directory and show the ESO folders (live, pts and etc.) Click Next
  5. Here you need to select the location where the backups will be saved. I advise you to leave it as it is. Below, select the ESO folders from which the settings will be backed up. (By default, all folders are selected, but note that you cannot uncheck the live folder) Click Next
  6. All setup is complete. Now click Finish

How to update the program:
Download the archive and unpack it to where you installed the program. (If you received a notification about a new version and clicked on the "Open the update page" button, the required folder will open automatically.)

How to set up automatic backup:
  1. Click on File at the top and select Settings
  2. In the window that opens, you will find the automatic backup settings:
Automatic backup at program start - If enabled, the program will create backups each time it starts. Works well with the parameter Run the program at Windows startup.
Automatic backup when closing ESO - If enabled, the program will create backups some time after the game is closed.
  3. You can also configure automatic deletion of old backups by enabling the Remove old backups automatically parameter and specifying the number of days below for keeping the backup.
Backups will be automatically deleted when the program starts.
You can also manually delete backups by right-clicking on desired backup -> delete

How to restore a backup:
  1. Select the desired profile by clicking on Profiles
  2. Select the required backup from the list
  3. Click on the Restore button
  4. In the window that opens, you can select 2 options for recovery:
Backup current SavedVariables - Creates a backup of the current addon settings. (Recommended).
Clear SavedVariables folder - Clears the SavedVariables folder before unpacking the backup. If disabled, existing files will simply be replaced.
Enable selection of files to restore - Includes the ability to choose which files to restore from backup.
  5. (If the game is running) You need to go to the main menu of the game so that unpacking the backup makes sense. Otherwise, the game will overwrite SavedVariables with the current data.
  6. Click on the Restore button and confirm your intentions.
  7. Wait until the program unpacks the backup. DO NOT close the program during this process!

1.2
• Added the ability to select which files to restore from the backup:
Now you can choose which files to restore from the backup. To do this, check the box Enable selection of files to restore and select the files you want to restore.

• Added an additional warning message when creating or restoring a backup if the game is running. (It can be turned off in the settings);

• Minor fixes.

1.1
• Added the ability to delete backups:
Now you can delete backups by right-clicking on the one you need in the list

• Added the function of automatic deletion of backups:
Now you can configure automatic deletion of backups. To do this, go to the settings (File -> Settings) and enable the Remove old backups automatically option. Below you can specify after how many days to delete the backup.
Backups are deleted when the program starts.

• Fixed a bug due to which the check if the game was running was not checked if the Automatic backup when closing ESO parameter was disabled.

• Fixed a critical error from which the program crashed on startup if the backup storage directory was deleted or the profile folder was renamed. Now an error message is displayed and the program config is reset so that the user can configure it again.

btw:
Copy & paste the whole folder to another drive does the same
But having it done automagically helps a lot

And as you cannot check if the user is at teh character selection screen or ingame in the world, this would be the only way to check for afaik.

You know what ppl actually think about "reading" and what they do with warning messagesm right? Click them away and in the end it was your fault that the data was not backuped properly
I have already created an issue https://github.com/FAR747/ESO_SavedV...ackup/issues/8 and maybe will implement this

I'm just think that ESC is a "pause menu", although it is not.
I will later replace what you suggested because the program has a notification when trying to restore a backup when the game is running:

There is such a check. As for the prohibition on backup and recovery when the game is running, I'll think about it because I don't want to force users to leave the game for these actions.
Maybe I'll add such a prohibition and an option in the settings that will allow to disable it.

ESO Running!
Exit to the main menu to restore the backup normally. Otherwise, the restoration will not bring results.

Thanks for the tool, looks easy to use.
